Fuengirola, located between Marbella and Malaga, is a 25-minute drive from the Malaga airport. Extremely popular with package-holiday tourists, the city has seen many improvements in recent years such as cleaner streets and beaches. The city has no shortage of high rise apartments and hotels, which house a fairly substantial population of year-round foreign residents, many of them British. TourismThe beaches are an obvious tourist draw in Fuengirola, and the city has several Blue Flag beaches. Fun at the beach doesn't stop at night, as there are many bars and clubs on the beachfront. Being a tourist destination, Fuengirola has numerous shopping centres. Miramar shopping centre, just off of the N340 in front of the Beatrix Hotel, has a wide variety of clothing shops and department stores, a supermarket on the bottom level, a multiplex cinema and numerous restaurants. The Miramar cinema often shows films in English or with English subtitles. There is also an arcade with toddler rides, basketball machines, air hockey, miniature golf and bouncy castles. Leisure Activities In and Around FuengirolaThe Fuengirola Zoo is a popular day (and night) out for families. The animal enclosures are simulated versions of their natural habitat, from tropical forests to African plains. The zoo is open at night (usually until 01:00 in the summer) to allow visitors to get a better understanding of the nocturnal animals. The Parque Acuatico Mijas (Fuengirola water park) is also quite popular with families, as they can spend the day in the children's paddling pool, on the waterslides and playing golf or tennis. There is also an arcade and a bar for food and drinks.
Every Tuesday and Sunday, there are large street markets in Fuengirola.
