Puerto José Banús, more commonly known as Puerto Banús, is approximately 6 Km west of Marbella. Set against the backdrop of La Concha mountain, it was established as a marina and luxury development in 1970 by José Banús. Today it is still considered a rather exclusive area frequented by the very wealthy, mostly German and British. Local LifeThe town was developed around the yacht-filled marina, which is its focal point. Though mostly quite modern, the town has some whitewashed traditional-style buildings. Bars and restaurants are abundant, as are upscale shops. Leisure Activities In and Around Puerto BanúsYachting is the predominant activity and some of the most expensive yachts in the world moor at Puerto Banus. With space for up to 800 boats, the town plays host to many yachting events throughout the year. As the area enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine per year, golf is a very popular activity. There are 9 golf courses within 10 Km of the town, many of which are considered among the best in Europe. The Cines Gran Marbella Puerto Banus, a seven-screen movie theatre, often shows movies in their original language (often English).
